Are human beings genetically programmed to be lonely and is there a “happiness” gene?

with one comment

What causes loneliness when people have a good home, family, friends, finances and faith? Yet others are happy coping on the bare minimum to survive. I hear people say they are lonely even in a crowded room so what is the solution? Or isn’t there one?

Can I legally leave home aged 16?

with one comment

My parents are planning to divorce in two years, I’m 14 at the moment and am considering whether it would be a good idea to leave home then. I have a reasonable amount of money in my bank, which would get me set up in a flat, and I have an apprenticeship at the moment which will become a fully paid job at 16, so I could finance myself, although I wouldn’t have many luxuries. Are there any legal reasons for me not to move out?
My parents are definetly going through with it – they can’t stand each other and the only reason they are not divorcing immediately is so that we can stay in a nice house and there will be as little disruption as possible to my GCSEs. When they do divorce, neither will have much money so I won’t get luxuries anyway. I’m not going to bury my head in the sand and pretend its not happening – it will happen and at least they have been considerate enough to consider my grades. So waiting to see whether it will happen is not an option.
Just to clarify – I can’t argue a case entirely on terms of abuse – but I could argue against my dad with neglect and being an irresponsible drunkard… I won’t go into details though!
"I don’t want to accuse of you being naive, especially since I’ve never met you. However, do you have any idea of what it costs to live on your own? Rent ? heat? electric ? car ? insurance ? food ? phone ? etc, etc, etc."

I already said, the money that I have will get me set up renting a flat, but it won’t cover anything else. The rest of the things I could pay for with the pay from my job – although I did say already that I can’t have anything that’s not necessary.

You’re right, you don’t know me and can’t call me naive. I have thought everything out and I think it could work, and providing that I get good GCSEs, I could continue my education later, once I’ve gotten through these two years.

Getting a loan to start my own business?

with one comment

I’m looking to start my own business but am a little unsure about how I can finance it. Let’s say for instance that i need to borrow around £50,000 to kick off the business, however I don’t own my own home, so does this mean I will be unable to get a loan?

Assuming I can get a loan under such circumstances, what would be the consequences if the business failed and I defaulted?

Where are the best places to list my ebook for sale?

with one comment

It is about 100 pages on personal finance. it shows a methid that any young person can use to own their home outright eithin 10 years.
Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I don’t really buy that it is too short to sell as the best selling property book on Amazon really was only about 60 pages long and light on any real instructions.

Would you suggest I promote the book and list it on all the websites mentioned here, or specialise?

In March 2007, I was sold a car finance deal, I think it may illegal, can you help?

with one comment

In March 2007, I bought a Mazda 5 from a Mazda dealership in Dundee. All the paperwork for the deal, including the finance agreement, was brought to my home address by the saleswoman to ‘save us another trip to the garage’ and because she might not have been there to do the handover. I have since learned from the Finance Manager of another car dealership, that all paperwork for such deals must be signed on the dealers premises and not at a private address, if not, it can apparently render the deal null and void, and may also result in me getting my money back. Is this true and under which law or statute do the regulations or guidelines fall?

can yahoo run a poll on the prospect of the U.K joining the euro.?

On the Finance home page there is a survey about the interest rates. I would be interested to have a reaction to the question " Should Britain join the Euro ? and offer alternatives
