Personal finance fact!?
If you had purchased £1000 of Northern Rock shares one year ago it would now be worth £4.95
With HBOS, earlier this week your £1000 would have been worth £16.50
£1000 invested in XL Leisure would now be worth less than £5
But if you bought £1000 worth of Tennents Lager one year ago, drank it all, then took the empty cans to an aluminium re-cycling plant, you would get £214.
So based on the above statistics the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and re-cycle.
SA investment?
Of all the companies that pulled out of South Africa under apartheid because "morally" they could not support this wicked regime, how many of them have re-invested in South Africa post-apartheid?
Is it tnot that there is an institutionalised racism inherent in finance and business that WILL not invest in African countries with black governments.
Before people start parroting, what about Mugabe and what about Idi Amin bla, bla, bla, just remember that Britain propped those leaders up.
Does it not suit Euro-American interests that Africa remain oppressed and underdeveloped in order to keep the prices of the natural resources low and thus boost their profits on the stock exchanges and the futures markets?
What does contracting out mean?
I have just started work at a financial advisors as an admin assistant. The advisors advise in all areas of finance – mortgages, pensions, investments etc.
Anyway, the advisors said we’ll be concentrating on sending out the ‘contracting out’ reviews to our clients tomorrow.
Can anyone give me an insight on what ‘contracting out’ means in the finance world.
Thanks x

Nouriel Roubini: The Financial Crisis -3
Nouriel Roubini – who successfully predicted the recent collapse of the US-dominated financial system years in advance – discusses the financial crisis and its impact on world economies. Best Accounting or Finance Professional exams?
Hi,
I’m an international student currently taking a gap year after finishing my first year of undergraduate BSc Investments (Cass).
I’m keen on enrolling myself to one of the professional courses so that I could at least earn a qualification before deciding I want to complete my 4-yr degree.
Could anyone recommend any professional accounting or financial courses and institution I’m eligible to attend full-time classes?
I just know that CFA only allows final year student to sit for the exam and London School of Business and Finance.
Other than that, I have no idea what’s the difference between CMA, ACCA, ACA, etc.
I enjoyed studying economics and financial accounting as well as quantitative methods and company valuation.
I look forward to working in the UK and Asian countries.
Much appreciated for your help.
