Enrollment at University?

with one comment

I’m thinking of taking a gap year and studying in a different country.
After I receive my results, do I ‘have’ to enrol at the University?
What happens if I don’t? and what happens to the Student Finance?

I know this is very late, but I don’t want to end up doing something I don’t like and it takes me a while to decide something this big.

And also if anyone knows any private student loan companies/institutes, I would be very grateful. Thanks

NHS is crap compared to other nations?

with one comment

Surprise, surprise.

From Financial Times:
Overall, the report rates the UK a “mediocre” performer, which does well for heart problems and provision of healthcare information, but poorly on access to new cancer drugs, five-year cancer survival and direct access to specialist doctors.

The report claims “Bismarck”-style healthcare systems, such as Germany’s, funded by a series of insurers independent of healthcare providers, do better than “Beveridge”-style systems such as the UK’s National Health Service, where finance and provision are contained in a single organisation.

My solution?
Scrap it entirely and duplicate the Germans’. NHS is a political commodity not a proper healthcare provider.
Copy the Australians and offer more competitive private health and also duplicate German policy of strict means-tested eligibility for NHS.
Don’t believe your tabloids and their tripe about darling kiddies dying. It’s a fact of life.
How many die in Africa per day from preventable illness?
Fact remains the US private system is far superior in all regards to the best NHS could ever muster.
Why not let a version of NHS operate where only those financially unable to afford private would use it?
Those who can afford private health would be forced into it.
This is the system in Australia with their Medicare and Medibank Private
NHS is total rubbish- it would be dismantled in Canada.

Treatment and/or American Schools for a 6 year old that lacks core strength?

with one comment

Hi,

My son was 7 weeks premature, and he is now 6 years old. He has had physiotherapy for a lack of ‘core strength’, and has been referred to an Occupational Therapist (still on waiting list).

We are fortunate to have the finances to look into private treatment, and I was wondering if anyone knows of any schools in the USA that work with children like my son.

We can live in the USA or the UK – and as he still cannot dress himself (putting socks on) or climb, run, jump properly, we are willing to sacrifice all so that he can develop at a quicker rate than what he is.

Anyone help?

Help! Working experience for CV!?

with one comment

I am an overseas student studying in a university in the UK. I’m not very familiar of what kind of working experience that you should include in your CV. I’m planning to apply for an internship in the UK next summer. I’m probably applying for a finance-related ones, such as capital markets. This summer, I worked for my parents who are doing some private forex trading activities as a personal assistant as I couldn’t really get a job out there in my country. I learnt quite a lot of stuff and I’m thinking of whether to include this as a working experience in my CV. A friend of mine said that I shouldn’t, since I wasn’t working for other parties. Do you think I should include this as I didn’t have any other working experience?
The other problem I’m worried about is since I was working privately for my parents and that’s their own trading instead of companies, I might not be able to provide a reference.
Thanks for answering…
