Financing and information on pilot licensing in the UK?
I am a possible future pilot that is quite confused about the licensing and cost of gaining these licenses. I have heard of the main licenses – private pilot license (PPL), commercial pilot license (CPL) and airline transport pilot license (ATPL) – and some of the ‘sub’ licenses, night time flying (PPL), instrument rate (PPL), frozen ATPL and type-rated. Now basically what I want to know is the minium requirement for a co-pilot on a commercial airliner (lets say B737), in regard to licensing, path towards it with instrutment rating and the like. As well as this, I would like to know about the financing for it. From what I know you have to pay for your own PPL and can get sponsorship for the type-rate but the rest are basically blanks. However, I also understand that with with sponsorship I would need to pay them back. A list of airlines that are good with sponsorship would be extremly helpful.
PS. I would also like to know about helpful courses to do in university to help towards this career (at the moment I am thinking something like computing as this will be my ‘fall back’ career path).
